Email to a friendWe are proudly introducing the 2nd rarest Gold Polaroid Camera on earth. Let us take this opportunity to inform you about the very collectible, very rare Gold Polaroid SX-70 Cameras; there are five variations to these gold plated cameras, it is a common misconception that there are four variations but let us assure you there are five.
The rarest of the Polaroid Gold Plated Cameras is the Cartier 22k Gold Plated Spectra. This cameras is almost a thing of legends due to its very limited production; there are only 4 in existence.
Here is where the confusion lies; the second rarest Gold Plated Polaroid is the 24k Gold Plated SX-70 Sonar model, however there are in-fact two variations to this camera. There is the Gold Polaroid SX-70 Sonar that features black leather panels along with the “Limited Edition” print located on the instructions panel underneath the eye piece. This camera is known to be the second rarest gold Polaroid but there is an even rarer variation; the Gold Polaroid Sx-70 Sonar featuring tan leather panels, with the words “Limited Edition” in-printed with gold paint along the top tan panel. This variation is the second rarest Gold Polaroid and we have only ever been able to find three of them, not for sale but just written about in blogs and forums. This tan leather gold SX-70 Sonar is the only Gold Polaroid that has a completely different finish; the surface is highly polished and features a reflective gold gilded surface, unlike the other gold SX-70 models that all have a matt finish.
We know that there were a very limited number of Gold Polaroid SX-70s with Sonar produced, all of which were given to Polaroid employees as a 40th anniversary gift. We think the Gold Polaroid Sx-70 featuring tanned leather was given to the senior Directors of the Polaroid Company, and as such we estimate that there were only a handful of them ever made; this explains their elusiveness.
The 24k Gold Polaroid SX-70 Sonar with tan leather originally came with a solid oak display stand and is the only model that was made with this beautiful stand. We include the stand with this camera upon purchase.
This really is a wonderful camera and one that really proves hard to value – how do you put a price on such a piece of history? Its fair to say that the owner of this camera will have something unique that can be handed down to future generations. We hope that this camera brings joy to a true collector of beautiful, vintage, analogue cameras. These cameras truly are a piece of history and art.
This is a fully functional Polaroid Sx-70 Camera and benefits from all those much loved features of the Sonar range; ease of use, fantastically ergonomically and great analogue fun!

• 116 mm f/8 4-element glass lens
